We would like to introduce you to Carrie Johnson, Founder of  Samba Sol, an eco-friendly Brazilian flip-flop line from the United States. 

About Samba Sol
Samba Sol is a highly successful Eco-Friendly Brazilian flip flop line that was launched in the United States just 3 short years ago.  Due to the comfort and desirability of the brand, many high-end hotels and resorts throughout the USA, Carribbean and Maldives have collaborated with Samba Sol for custom co-branded designs as gifts to their VIP’s and sold a in-room retail.

Hello Carrie, what inspired you to start your company?

As a kid, I would paint murals all over our barn walls while my sister would practice with her band. Art was always my favourite class, but never would I have imagined I would be living in Miami as a young adult surrounded by so many diverse and artistic people in such a culturally inspiring place. I see Samba Sol as a canvas for ALL my clients, including artists; to express their creativity and to create a product for them that they are proud to sell. 

We know that Samba Sol is very active in giving back to society! Can you tell us more about it?

Yes! I love to give back to the community.  We sponsored the Variety Magazine’s Power of Women: New York Gala, “Walk this Way” in Washington, DC benefiting the Becky’s Fund charity against domestic violence and abuse as well as the Stepping Strong Center at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.  We also customised flip-flops for celebrities such as P. Diddy, World Renowned tennis legend Nick Bollettieri and Nicky Hilton.

So far, what’s the most challenging part of your journey?

I would say the most challenging part is balancing work, life, kids, schools etc. I found it fulfilling but at the same time challenging.

What’s your personal success?

I would say I’m extremely proud of my children and Samba Sol. I believe my children will one day be like: How did she do it?! And this is what I believe is my personal and company success.

On building trust and credibility…
I think the product speak for itself. It’s about the word-of-mouth and we receive a lot of great feedback from our clients and thus a lot of others are searching for Samba Sol.

On growing teams…
Keep it small, especially in the beginning. Never let anyone tell you that their way is better as it’s not their company or journey, it’s yours.

On the top three things someone should consider before starting their own business?

First, you need to be aware that you will spend all your profits on the company at least the first year. Second, always remember to find great content creators and great pictures to tell a good story for your brand and products. Lastly, it is very important to hire the best salespeople for your company.
